The reason CFC is so hated by Beck and his ilk is because it did exactly what it intended to do and was undeniably successful. A lot of the stimulus package was, let's face it, "magical thinking." The actual amount of money was insignificant compared to the size of the economy it was intended to stimulate. Most of the benefit, then, assumed a multiplier effect convincing people that the economy was recovering, so they should start spending again. It worked in some cases, but not in others. That's why consumer confidence is up now, but so is unemployment.
CFC triggered a huge increase in the number of cars sold. It also replaced a significant number of older, poorly maintained vehicles with newer, more efficient ones, though probably not enough to significantly impact global warming. There are still plenty of good reasons to criticize CFC. There were logistical problems involved in the rebates, the older cars might have been made available to poorer drivers rather than being scrapped, many of the purchases would have been made anyway, this just changed the timing, etc. but the idea that the government would use the program as a massive phishing scheme is ridiculous.
The Fox News crowd wants a good reason to hate Obama, and is desperately looking for one that can stick. Claims of foreign birth, mob ties, "death panels" and even witchcraft, have either failed to be noticed by the rest of the country, or have been thoroughly debunked.

An evil magician never leaves any evidence that there was a trick in the first place.

Both sides are guilty of being propagandists, therefore both sides are untrustworthy.
